This isn't exactly the story of a boy on his knee pleading for the favors of his princess. Even more romantic in our book is the story of these two who gradually decided together that getting married would be a good idea. But after we had planned to do it and talked about it with several friends, we started getting chided that there had been no real marriage proposal... and this led to antics like an impromptu proposal over dinner with new friends who didn't expect to be hosting an engagement dinner that evening.
Known to everyone for pulling off coups like this, Linda had another great idea. On January 16, 2010 we were headed to Herbst Theater to attend Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion when Linda said, "You know the part of the show when he reads happy birthday wishes and greetings? Well, he always reads stuff about weddings." So she dropped a note in the box before the show. Sure enough.
